Otiti Knocks Aniagwu Over Claim of 24 Hour Electricity in Delta Community

Asaba – Akpovoke Otiti, publisher of AjaziralReport Newspaper, has criticised Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, over claims that a community in Isoko enjoys 24-hour electricity supply.

Reacting to Aniagwu’s statement on national television, Otiti described the claim as misleading and disconnected from the realities faced by residents across Delta State.

According to him, “Why the lies on national TV? Why promoting a failed government? Show or tell Deltans any community having 24 hours electricity in the state.”

Otiti further accused the commissioner of sacrificing credibility in defence of the government, insisting that many communities in the state still suffer from poor electricity supply and infrastructural challenges.

“You have reduced yourself and your integrity, if you still have any,” he stated.

The media publisher maintained that public officials should focus on addressing the hardship facing citizens rather than making claims that cannot be verified by the people.

NDPHC, ABIA STATE EXPLORE DECENTRALISED ELECTRICITY MARKET TO UNLOCK STRANDED POWER.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC), Engr. Jennifer Adighije, on Thursday held strategic discussions with the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex C. Otti, on leveraging Nigeria’s decentralised electricity market to commercialise stranded power and improve electricity supply within the state.

The meeting focused on opportunities for collaboration between NDPHC and the Abia State Government in creating ring-fenced franchise areas across commercially viable clusters and communities within the state.

According to discussions at the meeting, the proposed arrangement would enable the Abia State Government to commit to an electricity off-take agreement with NDPHC, aimed at delivering stable and sustainable power supply to targeted areas of economic importance.

Engr. Adighije also invited Governor Otti to witness the official start-up and restoration of the 450MW Alaoji National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) Plant, located in Abia State, which has now been fully restored to grid operations after remaining out of service for three years.

She noted that the restoration of the Alaoji power plant presents a significant opportunity for Abia State to strengthen industrial growth and economic development through improved electricity access.

The NDPHC boss further emphasised the company’s readiness to enter into a bilateral Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Abia State Government. According to her, such an arrangement would guarantee stable and cost-effective electricity supply capable of powering businesses, industries, and communities across the state.

The engagement reflects ongoing efforts by stakeholders in the power sector to utilise the opportunities created by Nigeria’s decentralised electricity market framework to address energy deficits, unlock stranded generation capacity, and drive economic growth at the subnational level.

Rescue Abducted Oyo Pupils Now, GOMEP Urges FG, DSS, Police

……… Condemns Killing of Teacher, Seeks Swift Action

The Guide of Online Media Editors and Publishers (GOMEP) strongly condemns the horrifying abduction of over 40 pupils, students, and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, alongside the gruesome killing and reported beheading of one of the teachers by the kidnappers.

This barbaric act is not only an attack on innocent Nigerians but a direct assault on education, humanity, and the collective conscience of the nation. It is painful and deeply disturbing that children who should be in classrooms learning for a better future are now trapped in fear and uncertainty at the hands of criminals.

GOMEP expresses grave concern over the worsening state of insecurity across the country, especially the growing trend of attacks on schools and rural communities. The latest incident in Oyo State once again exposes the dangerous security gaps that continue to leave citizens vulnerable.

We condemn in strong terms the brutal murder of the teacher whose life was cut short in such a cruel and inhuman manner. Such evil actions have no place in any civilized society and must never be allowed to become normalized in Nigeria.

The Government at all levels, security agencies, and relevant authorities must rise beyond mere condemnations and take immediate decisive action.

Nigerians are tired of repeated stories of abductions, killings, and bloodshed without concrete and lasting solutions.

GOMEP therefore calls on the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Civil Defence, and all relevant security agencies to ensure the immediate, safe, and unconditional rescue of all the abducted pupils, students, and teachers still in captivity.

The lives of these innocent children and educators must not be subjected to negotiations, politics, or delays. Every available security and intelligence resource should be deployed urgently to secure their freedom and bring the perpetrators to justice.

We also urge government authorities to strengthen security around schools, especially in rural communities, to prevent further attacks on educational institutions. Schools must remain safe environments for learning and development, not targets for terrorists and criminal gangs.

GOMEP further calls on community leaders, traditional rulers, religious bodies, civil society groups, and citizens to support efforts aimed at tackling insecurity and protecting vulnerable communities across the country.

Nigeria cannot continue to lose innocent lives while criminals operate freely. The protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government, and this responsibility must be carried out with urgency, seriousness, and accountability.

Why Delta NDC Should Consider Ken Pela for Governorship Ticket – Party Chieftains

As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Delta State, stakeholders within the New Democratic Congress (NDC) have intensified calls for the party to rally behind renowned technocrat and development advocate, DCN Ken Pela, as its sole governorship candidate at the forthcoming primaries.

Party faithful across the three senatorial districts described Pela as a man with the competence, administrative experience and grassroots connection needed to reposition Delta State for sustainable growth and inclusive governance.

According to NDC members, Delta State requires a leader with deep understanding of governance, economic planning and institutional development, stressing that Ken Pela possesses the leadership qualities capable of transforming the fortunes of the state.
Supporters of the governorship aspirant maintained that Pela’s years of experience in public administration, private sector management and community development distinguish him from other contenders in the race.

They noted that his reputation as a disciplined administrator and visionary leader has continued to attract admiration among youths, professionals, women groups and party loyalists across the state.

A party stakeholder in Delta Central said the NDC must avoid internal divisions by presenting a candidate with broad acceptability and political maturity, adding that Ken Pela remains one of the few aspirants with statewide appeal.
“Delta needs a leader with ideas, integrity and capacity. Ken Pela has consistently demonstrated commitment to good governance, accountability and people-oriented leadership. He understands the challenges facing the state and has practical solutions to address them,” the chieftain stated.
The stakeholders further argued that Pela’s developmental philosophy aligns with the aspirations of many Deltans seeking improved infrastructure, youth empowerment, quality education, industrial expansion and job creation.
They also commended his accessibility and ability to engage with ordinary citizens, describing him as a bridge-builder who prioritises unity and inclusive governance over political bitterness.

Observers within the party believe that presenting Pela as consensus candidate could strengthen the NDC’s chances in the general election, particularly among undecided voters yearning for fresh leadership and credible alternatives in Delta politics.

Political analysts equally pointed to his calm disposition, administrative exposure and strategic vision as qualities that could help stabilise governance and attract investment opportunities into the state.

With consultations and alignments ongoing within the NDC, many party supporters insist that the emergence of DCN Ken Pela as governorship flagbearer would signal a new direction anchored on competence, transparency and progressive leadership in Delta State.

Obidient Movement Accused Of Smear Campaign Against Deacon Ken Pela In Delta.

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Wilson Kesi has raised concerns over what he described as sustained attacks and propaganda allegedly being directed against Delta State governorship aspirant, Deacon Ken Pela, by some members of the Obidient Movement in Delta State .

Wilson, who spoke during a discussion with party members in Aviara, Isoko South Local Government Area said there was an urgent need for party stakeholders to address what he termed “divisive narratives” capable of creating unnecessary tension within the NDC family.

According to him, the issue came up after he contacted his ward chairman in Aviara to monitor developments within the party structure at the grassroots level.
He disclosed that after supporting the ward with funds for the upkeep of its secretariat, discussions shifted to the political direction of the party ahead of future elections.

Wilson said when the subject of the Delta governorship race came up, he openly declared support for Ken Pela, insisting that the businessman and politician remains the most visible and established figure within the party in Delta State.
He then went further to say that all allegations that some individuals identified with the Obidient Movement had been circulating portraying Pela in a negative light, including allegations that he compromised during the 2023 elections are all figments of the imagination of such wicked rumor peddlers.

Describing the allegations as false and politically motivated, Wilson argued that Pela’s decision to pursue his electoral case from the tribunal to the Supreme Court showed commitment rather than betrayal. If the contrary was the case, is it now the people they claimed he sold out to that should be screaming, how come it’s the same family members of the Obidient movement that is selling this evil narrative?

He further maintained that Pela’s wealth and business background were verifiable, noting that the politician had longstanding investments in the power and real estate sectors. He urged the members of NDC to discontenance any evil insinuations against Deacon Ken Pela. Wilson described Pela as a founding pillar of the NDC in Delta State, adding that he played a major role in strengthening the party before the official unveiling of the platform by Seriake Dickson earlier this year.

According to him, Pela was equally instrumental in efforts that eventually attracted Peter Obi to the NDC political family. While others didn’t see the light early enough, Pela had pitched tent with the NDC, a sign of visionary leadership which most of the later days Apostles lack.

The party chieftain warned against what he described as attempts to create division within the movement, stressing that political disagreements should not degenerate into campaigns capable of damaging reputations.

He called on leaders of the Obidient Movement, including Yunusa Tanko, to encourage their supporters to promote unity and issue-based engagement within the party stressing that “nobody can be more Obidient than Pela”

APC Primary Scandal Rocks Olomu Ward 1 as Votes Emerge Without Election

By Philo Ezewu

Confusion trailed the planned primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Olomu Ward One on Saturday, May 16, 2026, as the exercise failed to hold despite recorded voter turnout across five communities.

Available figures showed that 261 members turned out in Ogoni Community, 240 in Okpe, 215 in Ophori, 110 in Okpavuerhe, and 108 in Agbon Olomu, bringing the total participation to 934 party members.

However, there was no evidence of an officially conducted primary election in the ward, raising concerns among party faithful and observers over the credibility of the process.

Sources within the ward said members gathered in anticipation of the exercise, but no voting procedure or accreditation process was carried out by party officials.

The development has sparked questions about how turnout figures were compiled in the absence of a formal election, with some stakeholders describing the situation as a breach of internal democratic norms.

As of press time, officials of the party in Olomu Ward One had yet to issue an explanation regarding the cancellation or failure to conduct the primary.
