Latimor appointment will destroys okowa goodwill, if not treated now – UPU PG

The factional President-General of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Chief Engr. Joe Omene, has reacted to an allegation leveled against him by an aide to Delta State Governor, Senator Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa to the effect that he (Chief Omene) is responsible for the crisis in UPU because the UPU under his leadership in 2015 endorsed Chief Great Ogboru as the choice of Urhobo nation in the 2015 governorship election.

An aide to the governor, Mr Fred Oghenesivbe, who is an Executive Assistant to the State governor on Communication had reportedly accused Chief Omene of taking a unilateral decision to endorse Chief Ogboru, an action he alleged threw up crisis the UPU. But while speaking with The New Diplomat’s South South Bureau Chief in his Mosogar country home, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Omene explained that he was not in any way provoked by the allegations leveled against him by the Governor’s aide because he is not someone he would like to dignify with a reply.

According to Omene, he only chose to clarify some of the issues especially, the allegation against him that he as the President-General of the UPU, unilaterally endorsed Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, as Urhobo choice for the 2015 governorship election in Delta State. Chief Omene who said he couldn’t have done such a thing insisted that the initiative came from some Urhobo elders and it was subsequently subjected to wide consultation among all relevant stakeholders in Urhoboland, and a decision was collectively arrived at.

While debunking the accusation , he noted that it is a ironic that he is being accused of been responsible for Ogboru’s endorsement in 2015 when everyone could verify from those Urhobo elders who were responsible for the initiative as they are still alive, adding that it was a collective decision of all. He said: “As for the endorsement of Chief Ogboru… the only thing I want to say is that it was a collective decision of all Urhobo people, not UPU alone. If there are doubting Thomases as to who and how Ogboru was endorsed, it was a collective decision.

“I, Chief Joe Omene will not just wake up to say, this is what Urhobo should do. There must be wide consultation. As to who to choose between Ogboru and Emerhor, that idea did not come from the UPU. The idea came from Urhobo Elders and Leaders Forum. And in the Urhobo Elders and Leaders Forum, you have Chief Godwin Ogbetuo. He is still alive; you can find out from him. You have Chief Dr. Salubi, you have Justice Dugbo and you have Dr. Obakponovwe.

“These were the people that came to UPU to say, look, we should not allow Emerhor and Ogboru to contest for the governorship and that we should pick one of them and tell Urhobo that this is the person Urhobo should vote for. It was not the brain child of UPU. I have documents to that effect.”

Explaining his case further, Chief Omene said he recalled that all the various groups and stakeholders in Urhoboland were consulted and their opinions sought before the formal endorsement of Chief Great Ogboru as the choice of Urhobo for governorship of Delta State in 2015.

He explained in details: “So, we the exco of UPU now asked them, who in their opinion should we endorse? And they mentioned Chief Great Ogboru. So, we now told them that it is okay, but we have to make a widespread consultation to get the opinions of other stakeholders. We now invited the Forum of Presidents-General of Urhobo kingdoms which was headed by Dr. Obakponovwe again and Chief Kenneth Iwhewhe, the President General of Ughelli kingdom, as the Secretary of the Forum. When they came, just like we did to the Urhobo Elders and Leaders Forum, we asked them for their choice of candidate…. Dr. Obakponovwe spoke on their behalf, and they said they want Urhobo to endorse Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru. We then invited the Eghweyan (women forum) of Urhobo, they also said the same thing.”

“We also invited the Ighele (Youths) forum of Urhobo, they said the same thing. We also invited the association of Urhobo clergies. But the clergies said they cannot mention who to endorse between the two Urhobo sons because doing so will divide their churches. That was what happened”, he said.

Explaining further, Chief Omene said that the UPU would also have been accused of sitting on the fence, and allowed two illustrious sons of Urhobo to fight themselves on who should be the Urhobo governorship candidate in that 2015 election.

“But we decided to consult and seek the opinions of a broad spectrum of the Urhobo nation before the endorsement of Chief Great Ogboru.

“So, in a situation like this, if the UPU did not do anything, despite the plea of the Urhobo Elders and Leaders Forum, the Presidents-General of the kingdoms, the Eghweyan and the Ighele (Youths wing), and we allowed the two of them to contest, the UPU would have also been accused of sitting on the fence allowing two Urhobo sons to fight themselves”, he said.

Chief Omene who provided insights on how the formal endorsement of Chief Ogboru took place explained that a date was set aside for the formal endorsement during which the various groups consulted were invited to a meeting at the President General’s home. According to him, at the end of the meeting, a communique was issued which was duly signed by representatives of the various groups including the UPU executives.

He said: “So, for the so-called Latimore to allege that I, Chief Omene, brought in Chief Ogboru for the UPU to endorse, whoever cares to know the truth should go and find out from these people I have mentioned. And I’m a very clever person, on the date set aside for the endorsement, all the various groups whom we have met with at different times were invited to a meeting with the President-General and his exco. There, we laid the matter bare.

“The Forum of Urhobo Leaders and Elders were there; the one of Presidents-General was there; the one of Eghweya and Ighene were all there. And so, they came up with a communique endorsing Chief Great Ogboru. Like I keep saying, the idea of say let us pick one candidate for Urhobo to endorse did not originate from the UPU. It originated from the Elders and Leaders Forum. It was they who brought the matter to UPU and we listened. The only thing we did was to consult widely by seeking the opinions of different groups that constitute the Urhobo nation.

“Then, like I said, a communique was issued. The communique was signed by Chief Dr. Salubi and Chief Ogbetuo for and on behalf of the Elders and Leaders Forum. It was also signed by Dr. Obakponovwe and Chief Kenneth Iwhewhe as Secretary. The communique was also signed by the President and Secretary of the Women body and it was also signed by the President and Secretary of the Ighene group.

“And then on the part of the UPU, I signed as the President General and Chief Akpomudjere SAN, who was the Secretary also signed. So, I’m taking my time to give the background to the allegation against me by that political prostitute called Latimore who thought he could use my name to attract food on his table.”

Chief Omene who vowed not to respond further to the series of attacks on his person said everyone knows who he is in the State as regards his ability to speak the truth, lay facts down and they could verify from all the people he has mentioned in his own account of what transpired in 2015.

Omo-Agege, Amaechi battle for soul of South-South APC Leadership

By Akpovoke Otiti – Editor

ABUJA- Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi of River State ‘, is definitely not finding things in the South – South political space since the emergence of Senator , Ovie Omo – Agege as the new leadership of the All Progressive Congress, APC South – South region.

The personality clash between the duo has now come to the fore front of National dailies , with series of blackmail and propaganda as supporters are also seen at daggar drawn.

The runing battle between the two APC leaders has now attained a worrisome level, which if not quickly nipped, is capable of hindering 2023 APC elections, which invariably might destabilise the political permutation of the All Progressive Congress, APC, come 2023.

Omo-Agege which became popular in Nigeria owing to the leadership skills displayed at the red Chambers, this is one battle he will fight head on . I appeal he commit Delta Central APC people to do the real fight for him. We understand that Amaechi outbust has set the stage open for what may happens in the coming days.

APC party stakeholders, while fielding questions from Aljaziral reporters online Newspaper disclosed that the feud between them stemmed from recommendation of individuals for appointment , leadership and personality issues .. But political Observers insist that the relationship between the duo had deteriorated by the series of blackmailing and propaganda.

DTHA APC law makers Condemned the baseless scandal that demand DSP resignition

ASABA-The minority leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, representing Ethiope East Constituency, Hon. Innocent Anidi, and Hon. Barrister Charles Oniyere, representing Ughelli North Constituency 1, of the All Progressive Congress, APC, have in a strong term condemned the action of Solomon Adodo and his groups over a baseless image damage cooked as an allegation of forgery and conviction by US court against the person of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy President of the Senate, describing it as not only a character assassination but sardonic. The duo however noted that Adodo’s group should be arrested for public disturbance and bridge of public peace. “It behooves on us to say that the hungry looking Solomon Adodo, and his group have failed to know that Omo-Agege’s political portfolio over the years have remained credible with immense accomplishment” The lawmakers further hinted that Adodo’s act portends danger ahead if the baseless allegation is not stopped with immediate effect.

They wonder why Adodo and his group will not channel their resourceful energy and time to better their lives rather than resolve to wasting their precious time on what is needless. ” Let us remind political distractors and job seekers, that Senator Omo Agege can never be distracted with mere allegations, knowing well that God chooses who he makes, and so , whatever trap enemies of progress set against his personality would soon be scattered like packs of card”

The lawmakers therefore adviced Adodo and his group to quickly desist from their negative tendencies and give peace a chance as the Urhobo Nation and the good people of Nigeria will resist any diabolic agitation that will create security threat to the good administration of President.

UPU PG Omene lashes those Urhobo’s behind Omo Agege attack – Says is An Attempt To Stop Him From 2023 election

By Ese Adagbra .

Olorogun Engr Joe Omene is the factional President General of Urhobo Progressive Union UPU he spoke with Mr Ese Adagbra on reason why Senator Ovie Omo Agege Deputy Senate President is been attack and the need for Urhobo not panic. He also gave an update on the move by prominent Urhobos to reconcile the UPU and what the DSP to mend his way with aggrieved members of the APC as regards 2023.

Question :
As the President General of Urhobo Progress Union UPU, what is your reaction by some civil society groups calling on Obarisi Ovie Omo Agege Deputy Senate President,DSP to resign as a result of an alleged traffic offence he committed in USA.

Answer
I’m not surprised! Nobody will be talking about a mad man on the street.A lot of people are aspiring to get to the position he is today, since he is the 5 or 6 person in the country this kind of thing is bound to happen.because if they allow him to complete his tenure after 4 years to them he will become a super star politically. So let us pull him down before 2023.They are not fighting him because he is DSP,bit because they see him as a threat come 2023 and stumbling block so that is why they are targeting him. There are people who want to be Senator, Governor,Vice President,or DSP in 2023.,So arrows are bound to be coming from different directions.

You should know we have many hired attackers in this country,or who is Mr Adodo? Hiding under civil what? Those who are responsibile for this attack will not come out openly we have a lot of hired and paid blackmailers in this country they use them to blackmail and pull people down. That is what is going on now.If you could recall when Senator was about to be made DSP some prominent Urhobos paid some people to come out and say Urhobo does not want Ovie Omo Agege that they want an Ibo man Mr Orji Uzor Kalu, can you imagine the level of their wickedness! Do you think those Urhobo Youths who came out to demand for Kalu as DSP,are the real people doing it? No! Those people who paid some Urhobo Youths to say Urhobo does not need DSP, might be the same people responsible for what is happening now.

This time they went to somebody who is close to a politician from Delta North this Ika born politician is a friend to a top Urhobo politician who worked together for Governorship position at a time.So when you look at the situation you will discover that the whole thing is coming from Urhobo Land.It is the Urhobo man who now called the outsider what do we do about this man? The outsider now said ok I have a boy we can use that is how they are operating in order to give the impression that it is not from Urhobo Land.
They may use Ijaw UPU to sabotage Omo Agege DSP ambition this Ijaw youth will now come out to comdenm the action going on now. They are trying to cover up so that Urhobos will not look inward., that this thing is coming from Urhobo Land.
So when you talk about Urhobo Unity,it is when you get to a position people will now come to you, you will now use the position to unite them. When Ibori wss Governor of Delta State Urhobo language was spoken in Asaba but today is it still like that? No! So also when Jonathan was President, some Northerners in his cabinet sabotage his government! That is why I said to myself that when Ika man wanted to man Ijaw man Urhobo Progress Union UPU President General there is no need breaking rib or head! over it because I know it is not going to work! I have the power to protest and people will fight for me!!but I know what cannot be, cannot be.You can be popular but when God says you cannot be ,do not waste your time.God has created Urhobo to occupy a great position in this country at a particular time and when that time comes we will occupy it.

In the case of UPU it is only God that knows how it will end! It may not even end with the case in court.Professor Andrew Onokeroraye former Vice Chancellor of University of Benin Reconciliation Team, to unite UPU with a particular Retired General but a particular Retired General sabotaged the effort of that team! After attending meetings us he will now tell some people Chief Omene has agreed to this and that ooh so please do not attend the next meeting ooh! He is a popular Retired General when you called him he will tell you that he is not in town! That was how that effort died!
As we approach 2020 another team led by Professors Eghagha,Been Oghojafor and even Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN,they met me ,we talked, and I told them that it is not a do or die thing! That they are millions of Urhobos out there who are qualify than me that the reconciliation should be done towards election and I said no problem.but some of my Executives are asking who will be the PG,at this time! I told them that, that should not be a problem but if the court declare my election illegal then it will be Moses Taiga, but if it is the other way ,then I’m the PG.So the question as to who is the PG, should not stop us from holding a unifying election.I told the Reconciliation Team but when they met Moses Taiga he said no way! because he has a paid master.

One thing I do not like among notable Urhobos they are afraid of speaking the truth. If these two teams reports were made public Urhobos would have known who is the stumbling block to peace and progress of the UPU.They thought I will be the stumbling block. They talked I listened to them at the end it is the same compromise! But Professor Temi Akporhonor was a little bit different,he was dribbling them. These three Reconciliation Teams headed by prominent Urhobo Professors, none was able to make it’s findings Public! Tomorrow somebody will now come out to say Ejorhofo is ithe problem of UPU you are talking of Urhobo Unity when you are not sincere! How can you unite people when you cannot speak the truth! Yorubas are not like that!

On Obarisi Ovie Omo Agege if I had not stood my ground he could not have been DSP because Moses Taiga did not endorse him and Buhari we did it.When the DSP battle was on I told him ( Buhari) we endorsed him without any condition because we believe he will be able to address the marginalisation of urhobos.so I told him ( President Buhari) to give Urhobos the DSP position as Thank You gift and I sent a Thank You Card to him in presence of Abba Kyari. It took sometime for the National Working Committee of All Progressive Congress APC on this matter until it was eventually zoned to South South and the end they gave it to Urhobo according to them Urhobo tried for the party. That was how it happened.

My advice for Ovie Omo Agege Is that he should not be distracted and Urhobo should not panic, because there is nothing legal to warrant his removal from office.if you are worry the enemies will be happy but if you are not,it is the enemy that will feel bad. This is the handwork of those who are at home here who are jittery of 2023 that are doing it by using foreigner to give the impression it is enemy of Urhobo that is doing it.what will be in 2023 will be, certainly not because of this distraction so also if Urhobo is getting the governor in 2023 we will get it,but if Urhobo is not getting it is not because of this, what will be, will be.

But for those Urhobos who do not want anything good to come to Urhobo except for their own benefit they should watch and check their conscience whether what they are doing is proper. If their actitude is to dwarf Urhobo by 2023,Omo Agege will dwarf them in 2023 then let us dwarf them.but if Omo Agege did not make it in 2023, it is because of his actitude and performance.because if people worked for you,you get to position and you did not remember them will they still work for you?

Question :
How would rate his performance four years as a Senator and ;Seven Months as Deputy Senate President?

Answer
He has perform credibly well in the first four years he was known as a result of his performance he was nominated by his party and eventually voted for as Deputy Senate President DSP.He would not have nominated by his party and voted for as DSP if he had not perform not even winning the primaries. He made the University of Petroleum Resources Effurun FUPRE Bill passed to be into law,Sexual Harrasement Bill, Electoral Reform Bills are all to his credit to crown it all is the Federal Polytechnic Bill Orogun, Delta State .

I know before the end of this tenure the school will take off, However he needs to work on his relationship with some people because they are complaining to me that he has forgotten them.If you leave those who worked for you in APC and empower the people’s Democratic party PDP people then you are not doing well.Even some of us know that he has empower more PDP people than APC.how many APC leaders has he empower as compare to PDP? These are the areas he must work on,you cannot say your political opponents work for you more than your party.

When you groom somebody who know you,in less than one year you will be well known why hiring someone who was groomed by his kinsmen why leaving your people? He should look inward because the PDP people you are appointing have their own agenda. They may be the ones to contest election with you tomorrow. He should look inward and find a way to empowering urhobo journalists because all the war fought in Nigeria today is fought by the media and journalists. As a politician if you do not have good propaganda machine you will be easily defeated.

Does he think that an Ika man backed UPU will support him when the chips are down? The one that supported you is there is it the one that said you are nobody that you prefer? Is it the ones that can be bought over?

Question
If you meet Obarisi Ovie Omo what will you tell him?

Answer
He is doing fine for the purpose for which he was elected but he should work on his personal relationship with those who worked for him and those who believe in him.His Aides are afraid to tell him: I will tell him he still needs those who stood and worked for him. Those people who he is patronizing today may even contest against him tomorrow.

Question
People are alleging that you more of APC than PDP.

Answer
It is not true.my primary objective as the President General of UPU is to ensure that Urhobo is not short change! If PDP or APC approach me on any issue I will only involve if it is in the interest of Urhobo but if it is against it forget it.If you could recalled you should know my level of involvement to ensure Urhobo got the PDP Governorship ticket in 2015.I know how many times Late Anthony Obuh, Ifeanyi Okowa and Uduaghan visited me! I told Uduaghan no way it must be an Urhobo man!

If I had agreed Late Obuh would have been the governor because nearly all the civil servants in the state were already supporting him . Former President Jonathan asked Uduaghan to listened to UPU because he wants to win his election, Uduaghan now called me and asked me to meet him at Dr Steve Oru house in Abuja.
It was these same Urhobo people that sabotage our efforts because they wanted Party PDP chairman and Speaker.Okowa got his votes from Delta Central during the primaries because Victor Ochei, defeated him during the primaries in Ibo land!So how can you say I hate Urhobos in PDP when I went to Chief EK,Clark house and met President Jonathan twice.

I attended Chief David Edvebie late father burial recently in Ughelli

Question
As a great Urhobo Leader, with Urhobo blood flowing in you what do you think should be done to those Urhobos who do not want to see any thing good coming to Urhobo Land?

Answer
As the President General of UPU when I talk, I talk without fear you do not need escort to move not the PG impose by an Ibo man.As a PG if I pronounce curse it is very effective if I call the Eweaya Old women group and ask them to pronounce it,it will affect the person. But I choose not to do it.I can call the Eweaya Old women to pronounce a curse on the Ijaw man impose by an Ika man on Urhobo. It will be devastating that is the truth.

Today the Woman in Late Mukoro Mowoe Executive she is in her 90 s still kicking strong is with me The one of Chief Salubi Executive is also with me they attend meetings with me.when the curse on Chief Ibori was to be loosen I brought the women.with Mamazima and Sakpegodi child I did it! People with Sakpegodi Fourth Generation These people are still in UPU If I call them and ask them to go and do something tonight it is going to be dangerous.

I will not do it I leave everything for God so when this Ijaw Taiga is talking about UPU women wing he is referring to Government Women Wing! The real UPU Egweaya are illetrates and old women they are still there but in order to move forward we now have Emete of UPU. The Constitution says youths which means boys and girls which is Ighene and Emete .Ekpako Senior men and women.Since we constituted the Emete wing about 20 of them have been taken to Lagos for training for solar Energy. They are being train by Urhobos who are not politicians.I met 16 branches when I came on board as PG,but as at the time of the crisis it has risen to 65. Urhobo is United because there is no ethnic group that has 100% unity.

Funkekeme urged Opposition parties to promote spirit of forgiveness, harmonious living.

The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment towards sustaining the already existing synergy between all political parties in the State in order to enhance the prevailing socio-economic development, peace and harmony across the state.

The Senior Political Adviser to the State Governor, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, gave the assurance, on Monday, while playing host to members of the State Chapter of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), who were in his office on a thank-you visit.

The Governor’s aide, while underscoring the importance of peaceful co-existence among the various political parties in the state, irrespective of their different political ideologies, said that the administration of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa will continue to ensure that no political party was being discriminated against in terms of dividends of democracy.

While urging the various Political parties to extend same ideology within their political administration, Solomon frowned at what he called the frequent change of party chairmen by some of the political parties in the State.

He described the situation as politically unhealthy, just as he tasked the various political parties on the need to promote the spirit of forgiveness, understanding and harmonious living.

“It is important to know that it is profitable for us to have an understanding in working together. It is also important for us to know that here in Delta State, we do not discriminate against other political Parties.

“This is so because, when there is no meeting point, rumors are bound to occur. So, we have been able to establish a formidable meeting point, particularly with the establishment of your secretariat here in Asaba, the State capital” Solomon said.

Earlier in his address, the IPAC Chairman, Mr. Afam Enemokwu, told the Senior Political Adviser that they were in his office on a thank you visit for what the state government had been doing for them so far.

He particularly appreciated the state government for establishing for them a befitting secretariat, just as he thanked the state government for remembering them during the recent Yuletide celebrations.
