Ezhiokpor road women within Obiaruku in Ukwuani LGA, on the 6th of May 2019, protested against non availability of power supply (total blackout) in their area, and also on the deplorable situation of the Ezhiokpor Road.The women took their protest to the houses of Sir Okenmor Tilije, Sir Patrick Kaine (PDP chairman), Ogbuefi Chukwudi Dafe (Executive chairman of Ukwuani LGC), and also the office of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in Obiaruku.They said they took their protest to the houses of Tilije and Kaine, as a result of their being members of the ruling party in the state, but met both absent, hence they kept a message for them to deliver to the appropriate quarter in terms of the deplorable situation of the Ezhiokpor road.They later protested to the house of the local government council chairman, were they intimated the council boss about their plight, in terms of the bad road and total blackout that they have been experiencing over time, they were assured that their issues will be looked into promptly, and solutions provided.They also later ended up at the BEDC office, were a delegation of four person had a discussion with the company authority.The BEDC authority told them that the blackout in their area was as a result of vandalization of some cables in the transformer serving the Ezhiokpor road axis. They promised to accompany them to the place the transformer is located, and look for a way forward towards resolving the problem.

IJESHATEDO – LAGOS resident of Fadausi Street, Ijeshatedo, Lagos State, Kenile Nwabuzor, has killed herself following protracted disagreements between her and her boyfriend identified as David.
City Round gathered that the duo had endured an unhealthy relationship since they met about two years ago.

Shortly before the incident, she was said to have sent a text message to her boyfriend, lamenting he had made life miserable for her and that she would soon kill herself.

Our correspondent learnt that the matter came to a head on Thursday, April 11, 2019 when the 26-year-old hairdresser decided to commit suicide after David reportedly said he was no longer interested in the relationship.

Speaking to our correspondent during the week, David, a graduate, said he hooked up with Nwabuzor two years ago while she was mourning the death of her mother.

He said Nwabuzor, who is a secondary school leaver, expressed fears that their relationship might not work out because of the disparity in their educational qualifications.

He stated, “She was my girlfriend and I loved her so much. We started dating each other about two years ago. She was not that literate, but I told her it didn’t matter. When we met, she was in distress. Her mother just died then and she was living alone. She said she could not live without her mother. Her brothers are based in Ghana, but they usually sent her money.

“She told me she finished secondary school, but I don’t think so. I really wanted to help her improve on her education. She easily got angry and if she had a disagreement with someone, she might not talk to that person again for years. As our relationship continued, I tried to correct her. I persuaded her to be going to church and bought a Bible for her. We usually had disagreements over petty issues.

“If we had a misunderstanding, I could be in her house for hours begging her and she would not say anything. If I decided to go, that would be another fight. At times, the misunderstanding would last for days.”

David, a photographer, told Aljaziralreporter press that Nwabuzor usually accused him of being promiscuous, adding that he found it difficult to dispel her belief.

“Because of the nature of my job, I have girls around me. She would be complaining that I was going out with them. I tried to tell her that she needed to trust me. I also saw boys around her because she was beautiful, yet I trusted her.

“Recently, she said I didn’t love her again. She changed her phone’s password to deny me access to her phone. She accused me of sleeping with women. It was true many ladies wanted me to ask them out, but I ignored them,” he added.

David explained that four days before the unfortunate incident, he had missed Nwabuzor’s calls while on an assignment at an event. He said he got back home late that day and returned her calls, but she did not pick them.

The photographer stated that when he called Nwabuzor the next day, she started insulting him and he ended the call.

He went on, “She sent me text messages, but I didn’t reply. On Tuesday, I went to her house to return the charger she lent me and when I was about to leave, she returned all the things I had bought for her. That night, she sent a text message to me, saying that I had stopped loving her since December 2018 when we had fun at different places.

“She said she was no longer interested in the relationship. In my reply, I told her she was free to find her peace anywhere else. On Wednesday morning, I thought about everything again. I knew she was depressed and I had been the person encouraging her. I sent her another message, begging her. Most times, she would be the one to say she was not interested in the relationship, yet she would be crying. I was always the one saying sorry.

“That Thursday, she came to our house for the first time and met with my parents. That was the day my father knew her as my girlfriend. She reported me to him and said she was no longer interested in the relationship. My father sought my opinion and I said I didn’t have any comment.

“She started crying. She called one of her brothers and told him she was coming to Ghana. My father is a clergyman. He tried to counsel her. As my father was talking to her, she was crying. At a point, she stood up and left. Afterwards, I left for my workplace.”

David told our correspondent he was in the studio when he received WhatsApp voice messages from Nwabuzor, but he was busy to listen to them.

He said she later sent a text message to him, saying, “You want to kill me; I will help you kill myself. Thank you for making my life a hell.”

He said immediately after he read the message, he took a motorcycle and headed for her house.

“On getting there, I peeped from her window and saw her body dangling on a rope tied to the ceiling. I shouted and barged into her room. Her neighbours helped me loose the rope while I brought her down. She was already heavy, but I was not feeling the weight.

“I was not in my right senses again. I took her on a motorcycle to a nearby hospital. She was referred to Randle General Hospital. A doctor confirmed her dead on arrival. I called her brother and relations. The police arrested me and detained me for two days. They said I should not have brought her down,” he stated.

Our correspondent learnt that the deceased was buried on Saturday, April 13 which was David’s 26th birthday.

“I have lost my sleep these days because of the incident. I am still going through the trauma,” David added.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, who confirmed the incident, said the police had received a distress call from the general hospital that one Kenile Nwabuzor was brought in dead by her boyfriend.

He said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the lady had earlier sent a text message to her boyfriend that she would kill herself. Her corpse was removed and deposited in the Lagos Mainland Hospital morgue.”

And how do we identify effective accountability reporters? These are journalists who excel at reaching broad audiences with great impact, and are successful in communicating meaning and context in their stories. Their work is closely read and widely shared, and often has the power to change minds and policies.

Aljaziral reporters are naturally immersed in successful, 21st-century journalism. They know they must understand and adapt to the needs and rhythms of different communities to be relevant.

The Delta State commissioner for Justice and Attorney general Barr. Peter Mrakpor, has described Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa as “the most labour-friendly Governor amongst the 36 state governors in Nigeria,” saying he has promised to pay the minimum wage of N30,000 and doused Labour’s restiveness occasioned by unpaid arreas of pensioners .

He commended what he described as the resilience of Deltans workers and their contributions to the state development, noting that Okowa has been able to address the agitations of the workforce through provision of adequate payment of salaries.

The Attorney said in a statement he signed on Wednesday that the theme of this year’s May Day celebration aligns with the vision of Okowa’s administration to improve workers’ welfare and build a buoyant economy capable of creating abundance for the people.

Mrakpor said, “I wish to send warm felicitations to the Deltans workers on the occasion of 2019 Workers’ Day.

The pensioner who was on his way to staged a protest at the square of the may day celebration dressed in rags with his documents as he lament in pity over the nonpayment of his gratuities since 2016 of his pension.

President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has been appointed as an “Ambassador-at-Large” of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC).

In a letter dated March 16, 2019, Ambassador Friday Sani, the Diplomatic Head of the Commission to Nigeria and other African Countries, stated that sequel to the approval of the World Secretary General of the IHRC, Dr. Saraki has been appointed as one of the revered Ambassadors-at-Large of the multinational body.

A copy of the letter was made available to DAILY POST on Sunday by Saraki’s media office.

It reads, “While our role as a regional body is to promote and encourage institutions and persons to uphold human dignity across the world, we must not fail to mention the commendation of our Nigerian team over your resolute efforts in the stability of your country and your firm leadership of the Nigerian Senate which is adjudged to be among the most proactive parliaments across the world.

“Besides, the Commission is not unmindful of the maturity that you recently displayed in the face of an obvious provocation in your constituency during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections,” Ambassador Sani said in the letter.

In the new capacity, Dr. Saraki is expected to lead the diplomatic team of the IHRC in various diplomatic missions across the world.

The Senate President has accepted the nomination of the Commission, while also expressing his appreciation to the IHRC for his nomination.

The Warri South Local Government Chief Security Officer in a swift reaction to a letter written to the Igbudu Market leadership by certain persons that they should not open for business on Monday April 29, emphatically declared that there is no security threat in Igbudu Market /Hausa Quarters and other parts of Warri South Local Government Area.

Dr. Tidi stressed that the Police Area Command in Warri have been duly communicated to ensure that the traders are given the necessary protection against persons with criminal tendencies that are capable of causing security breach in and around Igbudu Market as well as other parts of the local government area.

Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko, has received the Honorary Doctorate Award from the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, Nigeria.

Accepting the honour on behalf of other awardees, Ned Nwoko said the federal University of petroleum Resources Effurun , have created a land mark of sustaining promotion, peace and smooth operation in terms of development in Nigeria as a whole.

Ned made it known to the crowd that , ” To be recognised by the University is a badge of honour, seal of approval, power of confidence, acclamation of competence and celebration of social distinction.

“This is a life long privilege given the lofty essence of University. The idea of the University is not just the treasure of learning and knowledge. It confers the finest toga of human prestige, dignity and self assurance”.

Speaking further, the kind hearted former House of Reps Member affirmed that the award holds so much fascination for him.

He recounted his love for education and how he dared beyond the ordinary to acquire western education and exposure in England.

In addition, he stressed that such personal effort and conviction changed his orientation even as a fulfilling international legal practitioner; thereby spurring him to return to Nigeria in 1999 to serve his fatherland in politics and humanity.

The University of Petroleum Resources Effurun was established in 1997 and resumed academic activities with 50 undergraduates in 1998; however, becoming the first premier university of petroleum in Africa and 6th in the world.

FUPRE was established under the Federal Government of Nigeria initiative to build a specialized university in the Niger Delta to produce manpower and expertise for the oil and gas sector.
