FUPRE: University Don charges NNPC, Oil firms on impacts of microbial corrosion

The Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum and Resources, FUPRE, Engr. (Prof) Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, on Tuesday, charged NNPC and sisters Oil and Gas companies on the impact of microbial corrosion on petroleum production facilities.

Rim-Rukeh had also prevailed on NNPC, Oil and Gas Companies periodically ensures the integrity of their facilities, calling on major oil and gas companies to support research initiatives of the Universities at all times.

Engr. (Prof) Rim-Rukeh gave this charge while delivering his inaugural lecture: with the theme: “Microbial Corrosion: Latent Enemy of Oil and Gas Production Facilities”, making it the third in the series of inaugural lectures of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun Delta State.

He said during the lecture that every refined metal is at a high energy state and hence has; every tendency to return to its original ore of low energy state through a process called corrosion, pointing out that the extent to which corrosion proceeds is determined by number of factors which could be biotic (living) or abiotic (non-living).

Rim-Rukeh explained that Corrosion process where microorganisms (living factor) are able to initiate, facilitate or accelerate the corrosion reaction without changing its electrochemical nature is called microbial corrosion and also known as biocorrosion or microbiologically influenced corrosion.

He said, “It has been estimated that 40% of all internal pipeline corrosion in the gas industry is attributed to microbial corrosion. Annual cost of all forms of corrosion to the oil and gas industries in the United States is $13.4 billion, of which microbial corrosion accounted for about $2 billion.

Meanwhile, Prof. Rim-Rukeh had also revealed that Niger-Delta environment is prone to microbial corrosion and that it is real in the oil and gas producing area of Niger Delta, pointing out that this was inline with his research findings that had span the period of twelve years.

Prof. Rum-Rukeh said, “The first step in investigating metal failure as a result of microbiologically influenced corrosion is to study the physico-chemical and biological characteristics of the environment of the metal failure.

“Physico-chemical and biological characteristics of surface water, soils and produced water samples, collected from parts of the Niger Delta and analysed indicate that parts of the Niger Delta environment especially within areas of industrial activities correspond to an environment that promotes microbial corrosion.

“The contribution of Iron-oxidizing Bacteria (Leptothrix discophora to the corrosion of low carbon steel, (commonly used material for oil and gas facilities), saying that Leptothrix discophora is an iron bacterium that was isolated from New Calabar River.

“The presence of Leptothrix discophora increased the corrosion rate by about 123 percent and a pipeline of wall thickness 0.25 inch will corrode microbiologically after 12 years of installation at a rate of 2.08mpy.”

ADAMS OSHIOMIOHOLE ACCUSED OF FUELING, LOSING APC STRONGHOLD STATES TO PDP CALL TO RESIGN

ABUJA – The coalition of 2019 APC Ex – presidential Aspirants and forum of core APC no doubt, that the party (APC) performed poorly during the Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship and House of Assembly Elections. Instead of the party reclaiming some states, “we lost the ones we were holding onto. These states includes, Imo, Zamfara, Sokoto, Bauchi, Oyo and Plateau States. There were other potential states APC would have won if the National Chairman of the Party Adams Oshiomhole had listen to the voice of reason and immaculate judgment to resolving the crisis he created within the hierarchy in the party across the federation.Rather than addressing the crisis, he fuelled them making us believed that he is anti APC. When he unilaterally hiked the cost of obtaining Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship and House of Assembly nomination forms, we raised alarm and our alarm did not see the light of the day. He created crisis virtually in almost all the thirty six states of the Federation. As we address this conference, his home state Edo is currently on fire and there is possibility that the party may loose the forth coming election in Edo state if urgent step is not taken. The national chairman has done more damage than good to the party. In the light of the above, we, the coalition of 2019 APC ex-presidential aspirants and Forum of Core APC wish to renew our call on the national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to honorably resign to save the party from imminent collapse. He has caused more damage to the party and he should give peace a chance. We are also calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene to save the party from going into extinction. If urgent steps are not taken now, Oshiomhole will kill the party.President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Leader of Party, Ahmed Tinubu should prevail on Oshiomhole to step outside as he has created more division than unity in the party. As it is, Oshiomhole cannot lead the party as we have no confidence in him any longer. There is no time better than now for the National Chairman of the party to resign.

SEND OFF: David Edevbie an Asset to Nigeria, wealth knowledge Politician -Cyril Agbaje

By Otiti.

ASABA – This week has been the going away of all Delta State Commissioners, except Olorogun David Edevbe whose Ministry says No, we cannot just allow an Asset , wealth knowledge Politician , time keeper, a symbol of transparency and accountability , a man with standard go without a thank you message !

Edevbie send off party was a genuine warmth empathy, graciousness and Passion proven (as I once said about madam who came out of excitement to add her own praise at Edevbie’s official farewell),

Many people understand the duty of public service. But for Olorogun David Edevbie is a calling.

According to the commissioner for finance himself,, “he said I think I will stand on the existing protocol , that all the things said completely surprised him. I think I got a text , saying there was a sent forth for me today’ I honestly didn’t think too much about it , I felt is one of those things . As I have done it in the past , I have already packed my things out of the office to my home a week ago and my plan was just to disappear because I hate and I do not like saying Good -byes ! But when I mentioned it this morning to one of my colleagues and I have to change the time because of my program with the Governor , though my colleague was surprised when he heard my ministry were actually holding a sent forth for me, immediately he kept quiet and I discover something and I have to change the topic immediately. That the emphasis will be thank u thank you.

Edevbie has been a warrior for the cause of economic and social justice in the truest sense. Disciplined, strategic, knowing when to take a stand and knowing when to accept a partial victory. Willing to negotiate, but refusing to compromise fundamental principles.

David Edevbie made history as the only outgoing Commissioner been celebrated with a comprehensive list of his accomplishments and achievemnts

But of course, what everyone most remembers Edevbie for is his level of standard.

Time and again, throughout his nearly 4 years of service as the Commissioner for finance, David Edevbie stood by this bedrock principle: ” Even where the courts or the change in administration have reversed some of the victories that he achieved, those achievements still provide the foundation for those who understand not merely the financial skills but the moral dimension of communications transparency , and he is an inspiration to all of us for whom “the public interest” and “public service” are not merely a duty, but a calling.

Delta Politics: Do not Re-appoint Ukah In Your Second Term Cabinet. — OMPAN Tells Okowa

ASABA– The online media practitioners  Association Of Nigeria , (OMPAN) Delta state Chapter have warned Okowa not to Nominate Mr. Patrick Ukah , former Commissioner for information in his cabinet again. Delta Ompan appreciated Governor Okowa for making him part of his first term cabinet and for giving him a level field playing ground to showcase his ideas, but unfortunately Mr Ukah failed his immediate Constituency

Delta State Commissioner For Information, Patrick Ukah, who claimed in documents he submitted to the state transition committee that he bought 8 cameras for DBS Asaba and Warri for over N18 million could not be bold to come on air to tell Deltans how much has so far been expended on DBS Asaba and Warri for fear of the unknown…..

Here are some of the lies and fraudulent claims by the state former information commissioner in some documents he submitted to the transition committee few weeks ago:

(1) Ukah claimed to have purchased eight cameras at the cost of N18,721,738.00 for Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba and Warri…….

(2) Ukah claimed to have purchased some equipment for Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba and Warri at the cost of N9,654,750.00, meanwhile he declined to mention the equipment……

(3) Ukah claimed to have repaired of the FM coxial feeder line at Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri at the cost of N16,620,000.00 and no sign of improvement……

(4) Ukah claimed to have repaired the back-up transmitters at Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba, Ubulu-Uku and Warri at the cost of N43,000,000.00, and Mast tensioning, painting and repairs of Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba at the cost of N11,150,000.00.

(5) Ukah claimed that the provision and installation of antenna and repairs of TV transmitters cost him the sum of N57,240,000.00 and a brief to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on the 2017 flood disaster in Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba and restoration of the station back to air cost him the sum of N17,000,000.00……

(6) Ukah claimed that he repaired a faulty back up transmitters at Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba, Ubulu-Uku and Warri at the cost of N68,380,000.00…..

A second look at the above items, you will see that the repairs of transmitters with several millions of naira featured severally and you begin to ask, how much is a new transmitter that Ukah has expended so much millions of naira in just repairs……?

Absolutely there is nothing is on ground to show that actually such huge amount of several millions of naira was expended as the commissioner as claimed by the information commissioner in his documents……

The information commissioner has refused to react or make clarification on the following controversial purchases and expenditures made as shown in some of the documents tendered to the transition committee, but a reaction that came through his media assistant, Samuel Ijeh, claimed that the documents in our possession were actually submitted but it was later discovered that they were some typographical errors and they were withdrawn……

The question again is that is the commissioner for information saying such sensitive documents were given to him without reading through them carefully before submitting them in his hand over note to the transition committee.?……

Another question is that, why did the commissioner withdrew the documents (if actually he withdrew them as claimed) when he discovered that the documents are already in the public domain……?

Some of the addresses of the contractors in the documents Ukah claimed to have awarded the millions of naira contracts to, could not be located……

Moving forward, the information commissioner must as a matter of urgency and importance come out and address Deltans on how much he has so far expended in contracts awarded out for DBS Asaba and Warri as claimed in his documents and failure to do that a mass protest will be considered……..

OMPAN Delta commends Police over arrest of two Orphanage Home Matrons on child trafficking in Delta State.

Editor: aljaziralreporters press

DELTA- The Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeriaen (OMPAN), has commends Delta security operatives, especially Warri area command, that they have shown high-level of combating crime within the warri Axis

Ompan stated that, “the arrest of the three suspects over the alleged child trafficking of two-and-half-year-old baby girl was a plus to security of lives.

Those arrested included, the matron of Divine Orphanage Home, Rosemary Johnson and Madam Rose IIogbo in Ughelli. The third person was a lady, who allegedly bought the child for N850,000 from Johnson and Ilogbo.

The arrest followed a petition by the president of Nigerian Child Welfare Fund, Joshua Omorere.

Acting on the petition, detectives swung into action and arrested the suspects.

The police also uncovered a baby-making factory in Agbor during the arrest.

During the raid, a 21-year-old pregnant girl, Isioma Monday and a staff of Divine Orphanage were also arrested at the factory, which operates as an orphanage home.

Madam Rose IIogbo, who was confronted with an audio recording where she was negotiating for the child at the said sum, confessed that Juliet Philips was also reported to be involved in another child trafficking case, gave her the baby to sell.

IIogbo claimed that she sold the child to one lady who had gone through adoption process at N850, 000 in Ughelli.

She also confessed that the matron of Divine Home Orphanage at Agbor gave her another child to sell for N850,000 but people that were interested were offering N800,000, stressing that the matron of Divine Orphanage insisted it must be N850,000.

She also said, “On the 5th of December, 2018 Madam Rose returned the child to Divine Home Orphanage because Police were closing on her.”

During interrogation, the pregnant lady, Isioma Monday, who was arrested with a staff of the orphanage home, separately made contradictory statements.

Isioma Monday claimed she came to visit her aunty, a staff of Divine Orphanage Home.

But the staff of the orphanage on her part said the pregnant lady, Isioma Monday, was her younger sister of the same mother.

However, Isioma Monday later opened up to the Police that she didn’t know either the staff of the orphanage or the matron, noting that she was there to give birth and sell her child.

Reacting to the arrests made so far, President of the Nigerian Child Welfare Fund, Comrade Joshua Omorere said, “Orphanages now transfer children and sell them at will.

“The Police are currently planning on how to get Juliet Phillips from the prison to make statements on this issue and tell us where she got these children from.

“All I want is Justice and nothing less, the matter should be thoroughly investigated and charged to Court.”
