INEC Recognises PDP Caretaker Committee, Invites Mohammed, Ayanwu to Quarterly Strategic Engagement

Abuja – In recognition of a recent court judgment and in line with the principles of the rule of law, equity and justice, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended an official invitation to the authentic leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its quarterly strategic engagement with political parties.

The invitation, issued on Wednesday, was addressed to the PDP Caretaker Committee led by its Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and Secretary, Senator Samuel Ayanwu, whom INEC formally recognised as the genuine leadership of the party.

According to the electoral body, the decision was taken in strict compliance with the prevailing court ruling and in observance of established principles guiding institutional engagement with registered political parties in the country.
INEC stated that the move further underscores its commitment to due process, neutrality and adherence to the rule of law in the conduct of its statutory responsibilities and interactions with political stakeholders.

The development is seen by party faithful and political observers as a significant step towards restoring internal stability and clarity within the PDP, following months of leadership disagreements and legal contestations.

With the latest recognition by the electoral umpire, the PDP is expected to consolidate its internal structures and reposition itself strategically for future political engagements and the challenges ahead on the national stage.

Party supporters have described the decision as a victory for democracy and internal party justice, expressing optimism that the PDP will emerge stronger and more united, as the call for power to the people continues to resonate within the party’s fold.

Ughelli South APC Voices Reject ‘Private House Politics,’ Demand Transparency

By: Akpovoke Otiti

Prominent voices in Ughelli South have called for courage, truthfulness, and generational renewal in the area’s political leadership, commending Double Chief Samson Okomite for what they described as his bold and timely intervention in the ongoing political discourse of setting the records straight.

Speaking in strong terms, Chief Okomite was praised for “hitting the nail on the head,” with supporters describing him as “a round peg in a round hole” for openly addressing issues many have chosen to avoid. They stressed that progress can only be achieved when leaders and stakeholders summon the bravery to speak the truth, noting that “cowards die many times before their death, but the brave die but once.”

The call also included criticism of what was described as prolonged and forceful dominance of Ughelli South leadership by elderly political actors. In particular, concerns were raised over individuals who, despite being over 76 years of age, continue to exert control over political structures, to the detriment of younger and more vibrant aspirants.

Advocates for reform argued that figures such elders should honourably step aside to allow space for younger generations to contribute meaningfully to the political growth and development of Ughelli South. According to them, true leadership is also knowing when to make way for others.

Attention was further drawn to the recent position of the APC State Party Chairman, who reportedly stated No APC political gatherings should be held in private residences. This position was welcomed by stakeholders, who insisted that party activities must be transparent, inclusive, and free from personal control.

They argued that if certain private homes, popularly referred to as “Pharaoh’s house”, are deemed unsuitable, there are many other respectable and capable young leaders across Ughelli South who can host and organize political engagements in the interest of fairness and unity.

The message was formally copied to key political figures, including the APC State Chairman, Sen. Aguariavwodo, Comr. Izeze, Hon. Okorodudu, and Hon. F. O. Utuama, with a call on all stakeholders to support truth, inclusiveness, and a new political direction for Ughelli South.
