Abuja – In recognition of a recent court judgment and in line with the principles of the rule of law, equity and justice, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended an official invitation to the authentic leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its quarterly strategic engagement with political parties.
The invitation, issued on Wednesday, was addressed to the PDP Caretaker Committee led by its Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and Secretary, Senator Samuel Ayanwu, whom INEC formally recognised as the genuine leadership of the party.
According to the electoral body, the decision was taken in strict compliance with the prevailing court ruling and in observance of established principles guiding institutional engagement with registered political parties in the country.
INEC stated that the move further underscores its commitment to due process, neutrality and adherence to the rule of law in the conduct of its statutory responsibilities and interactions with political stakeholders.
The development is seen by party faithful and political observers as a significant step towards restoring internal stability and clarity within the PDP, following months of leadership disagreements and legal contestations.
With the latest recognition by the electoral umpire, the PDP is expected to consolidate its internal structures and reposition itself strategically for future political engagements and the challenges ahead on the national stage.
Party supporters have described the decision as a victory for democracy and internal party justice, expressing optimism that the PDP will emerge stronger and more united, as the call for power to the people continues to resonate within the party’s fold.
