Onobruchere said, “The issue is about agitation by some leaders of the community demanding for the community constitution, opening of bank account, five missing transformers and money being paid by oil firm and contractors operating in the community to the present executive for the past years not accounted for.

Mr. Onobruchere who represents Afiesere under OML 30 Community Development Board (CDB), said, “What is generating this is because some persons want to continue to rule the community without a constitution or account but some of us whom are elites from the community are against it.

“The present executives and those benefiting from the corrupt system are responsible for the current crisis in the community. On 6th of Dec, 2019, we got a report that some persons including the immediate past president, (names withheld) and the present executives held a meeting at one of the hotels in Ughelli where they plan to fall some persons that are opposed to them.

“When we got the information, we petitioned to AIG Zone 5 Benin, myself and Sunny Akponana who are the major actors who requested for constitution and account for the community. Evans Akponana also petition to Zone 5 and to confirm their threat, on the 13th of December, 2019 Evans was shot and kidnapped while his security guard was killed.

“Over the years until 2014 our community has no constitution and no bank account. In 2014 a committee was set up to draft a constitution and after working for eight months they came up with a constitution that was adopted by the community.

“In the GMoU signed by 112 cluster communities that made up the OML 30 with Heritage Company, article 13h says, ” Every community shall open a Freedom to Operate Account (FTO) where all CDS elements shall be paid.

“The CDS elements paid shall be for the execution of the project proposed’. The money from the FTO is different from the one from the money paid by the company under the GMOU. The FTO is paid by contractors handling contracts for the company to the community.

“For the past three and half years of this present administration, over N200million has been paid as FTO to the community and this money is being paid nto private account because the community has no account.

“They are attacking anyone on the other side as the called us from entering into the community. I want to call on the Federal, State and local Government, Security agencies, to ensure that nobody is denied entrance to the community and to forestall further breakdown of law and order.”
