Delta North Senate: I’ll Answer the Call at the Right Time — Victor Ochei

Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has declared that he will respond to growing calls for him to contest the Delta North Senatorial seat at the appropriate time.

Ochei made the statement on Saturday while featuring on the Arise TV Global Sports Programme, where he acknowledged increasing appeals from constituents and political stakeholders urging him to join the race for the senatorial position.

Ochei who is the President of Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF said the demand for his candidacy is a reflection of the confidence people have in his leadership capacity and track record of service.

“There have been calls from the people for me to run for the Delta North Senatorial seat, and at the appropriate time, I will respond accordingly,” Ochei said.

He, however, assured that any future political ambition would not conflict with his present responsibilities as President of the Nigerian Tennis Federation, emphasizing that public service and sports development have always gone hand in hand throughout his career.

“My love and tennis and the growth of sports remains unwavering. Politics and sports development are not mutually exclusive. I have always used every platform available to empower young people and promote excellence,” he stated.

Ochei highlighted his long-standing passion for sports, recalling that even as a lawmaker in Delta State, he invested heavily in youth development through various sporting initiatives, including the sponsorship of wheelchair basketball athletes in Nigeria.

He revealed that he personally supported athletes and teams to participate in international competitions, including sponsorship efforts aimed at helping Nigerian talents compete on the global stage in countries such as Algeria, South Africa, Germany and Brazil.

Beyond national interventions, Ochei noted that he has consistently sustained grassroots sports through his annual Village Unity Cup competition, a tournament designed to foster peace, unity and youth engagement in his community.

In a bold move to create lasting opportunities for young talents, he said he also established a stadium and sports development centre where emerging athletes can be discovered, nurtured and trained to professional standards.

Observers say Ochei’s comments may further fuel speculation over the Delta North Senatorial contest, while also underscoring his determination to leave a lasting legacy in both politics and sports administration.

Delta PDP to commence sale of nomination forms Comes April 27

By Akpovoke Otiti

ASABA  – The announcement by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, under the chairmanship of Dr Peter A. Mrakpor, SAN, marking the commencement of the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms from Monday, April 27 to Monday, May 4, 2026, is both timely and consequential.

It signals not only the formal start of an internal democratic process but also a critical moment for aspirants to demonstrate seriousness of purpose in the evolving political landscape.

This brief but significant window places a premium on preparedness. Serious contenders are expected to have done the groundwork
engaging constituents, building consensus, and articulating clear visions for governance.

The limited timeframe underscores the party’s intent to streamline its processes while compelling aspirants to move beyond rhetoric into concrete political action.
For party faithful, this period represents an opportunity to reaffirm commitment to democratic ideals within the PDP.

The sale of forms is more than a procedural exercise; it is a litmus test of inclusivity, transparency, and organizational discipline. How the process is conducted will inevitably shape public perception of the party’s credibility ahead of future elections.

Moreover, the leadership of Dr Mrakpor carries an implicit responsibility to ensure a level playing field. Internal party cohesion, often strained during such exercises, must be carefully managed. The chairman’s stewardship will be judged not just by the smooth conduct of the sales, but by the confidence it inspires among stakeholders across Delta State.

There is also a broader implication for the state’s political climate. A well managed nomination process could strengthen democratic culture, encourage healthy competition, and attract credible candidates capable of addressing the pressing needs of the electorate.

Conversely, any perception of bias or exclusion may deepen divisions and weaken the party’s standing.
Ultimately, this development should be viewed as a call to higher standards, by aspirants, party officials, and observers alike.

“As the PDP embarks on this exercise, it must do so with a commitment to fairness, transparency, and the collective interest of Delta State.

Outrage in Urhobo Nation: Stakeholders Brand Reps Ambition ‘Unchristian, Demonic’, Insist Udu Must Take Turn

By Akpovoke Otiti

Delta central – A storm of outrage has swept across sections of the Urhobo nation in Delta State, as aggrieved stakeholders launched a blistering attack on renewed political moves by Ughelli South to contest the House of Representatives seat, describing the ambition as “unchristian and demonic.”

The group, speaking in unusually strong terms, insisted that it is unequivocally the turn of Udu to produce the next representative, warning that any attempt to override this arrangement would amount to a grave injustice against other Urhobo blocs.

They further argued that the current political reality already tilts heavily in favour of the Western Urhobo axis, stressing that it is unacceptable for the same bloc to hold the governorship and a senatorial seat while still pushing to dominate the House of Representatives position.

According to the stakeholders, such a concentration of power has effectively left Eastern Urhobo with nothing, deepening feelings of exclusion and marginalisation among communities in that axis.

In a sweeping condemnation of the political climate, they declared that “Urhobos are too fearful, not courageous enough, and have been compromised,” lamenting what they described as a culture of silence in the face of injustice.

They also took aim at Urhobo leaders, accusing them of being “too fearful and docile,” and failing to speak out against what they see as a blatant disregard for fairness and equity within the system.

Warning of growing discontent, the stakeholders called for urgent redress, insisting that justice must prevail and that the Reps seat be ceded to Udu in line with principles of balance, fairness, and unity within the Urhobo nation.

Akpoti-Uduaghan to Kogi Judge: Well-done

Heads to Appeal Court

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Friday instructed her legal team to file an appeal to overturn the High Court decision awarding N1billion to former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

“We are appealing the judgement. I don’t have N1billion. We will drag the matter to the Supreme Court”

The Kogi Central Representative accused the court of ignoring the evidence presented by her legal team.

The Kogi State Government in 2022 called for the arrest of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The government in different national newspapers accused Akpoti-Uduaghan of sponsoring terrorism and orchestrating the July 2022 Kuje Prison break and the Owo Church massacre.

Reacting to the allegations of terrorism, Akpoti-Uduaghan said she was out of the country when the Kuje Prison incident and the Owo Church massacre took place.

“I was never connected to Safiyu at that time “

She recounted how Yahaya Bello prompted the security agents to arrest her.

“Yahaya Bello accused me of sponsoring terrorism because he wants me out of the ballot. He took the reports to the DSS. He was a constant visitor to DSS, telling them to arrest me. The person Yahaya Bello hangs out with is the sponsor of terrorism, not me. Safiyu was a close ally of Yahaya Bello. He was told to carry out a bad task against me. He said he wasn’t going to do it. The young man refused to mobilize people to hurt me”

Akpoti-Uduaghan recalled the Arise Television interview.

“I shared these pictures with Arise Television presenters. I didn’t know Safiyu. Safiyu was a close associate of Yahaya Bello. If anybody should be questioned about terrorism, it should be Yahaya Bello. If anybody is guilty of terrorism, it should be Yahaya Bello. He is the one who knows how I am involved “

She urged the former Kogi State Governor to file more defamation charges against her.

Akpoti-Uduaghan who is still consulting on her political future emphasized violence, fear and a high rate of missing people in Kogi State.

Majemite Mourns with APC Chairman Arenyeka Over Mother’s Death

By Akpovoke Otiti

Ughelli – Two time Commissioner in Delta State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Barr. Fred Okiemute Majemite, has extended heartfelt condolences to the Delta State APC Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, over the passing of his mother, Mrs. Felicia Arenyeka.

Majemite, popularly known as the Agbragha-mi-gbrogho, in a statement issued by his media team on Sunday, described the loss of a mother as one of the most painful experiences any individual can endure, noting that words are often insufficient to fully express the depth of such grief.

He said the death of a mother represents one of life’s deepest sorrows, as mothers occupy a unique and irreplaceable place in the lives of their children, offering unconditional love, guidance, and support throughout their lifetime.

While sympathizing with the APC state chairman and the entire Arenyeka family, Majemite urged them to take solace in the impactful and fulfilled life lived by their late matriarch, whose legacy, he noted, would continue to inspire generations.

The fmr. commissioner further prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed, asking God to grant the bereaved family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Majemite reaffirmed his solidarity with Arenyeka during this period of mourning, emphasizing that the thoughts and prayers of friends, associates, and political allies remain with the family as they navigate this difficult time.

Orubebe Dumps Onowakpo Thomas, Backs Diden, Cites Loyalty Over Neglect

By Akpovoke Otiti

Warri – Former  Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe, has declared his support for former DESOPADEC Chairman, Michael Diden, popularly known as Ejele, describing him as a consistent and dependable ally.

Orubebe said his decision was based on personal experience, stressing that loyalty and sustained relationships remain key factors in his political choices.

He cited instances where, shortly after his electoral victory, Senator Joel Onowakpo Thomas allegedly distanced himself, noting that the lawmaker “did not know the road to his house again” for over a year. In contrast, he said his relationship with Diden has remained cordial and unwavering.

The fmr. minister expressed disappointment with the Delta South lawmaker, whom he said he supported financially with millions of naira during his election campaign.

He alleged that after securing victory, the senator failed to reach out to him for over one year and six months, a development he described as neglect and a sign of poor political character.

Recounting a recent encounter at a meeting, Orubebe said he ignored the senator when he attempted to greet him, adding that he told him bluntly, “You are a bad product.”

Declaring his stance unequivocally, Orubebe said he needed no further consultation before backing Diden, insisting, “Ejele is part of me… He is my candidate.”

Odior Pushes Bill to Save Indigenous Languages, Promote Delta’s Cultural Heritage.

By Philo Ezewu

Hon. Bernard Odior, member representing Isoko North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, has unveiled plans to sponsor a bill aimed at preserving indigenous languages and strengthening cultural identity across Delta State.

Speaking to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, at his Ozoro country home on Monday, April 20, 2026, Odior expressed concern over the declining use of native languages among young people. He blamed the trend on the growing dominance of English and Pidgin in everyday communication.

To reverse the decline, the proposed legislation would make the teaching of indigenous languages compulsory in all primary and secondary schools in Delta State. Academic progression would be tied to students’ proficiency in their mother tongue. The bill would also establish an annual cultural festival and competitions to foster pride in local traditions.

“There is a growing concern that many children can no longer speak their native languages. We must act now to preserve our identity and ensure future generations do not lose their heritage,” Odior said.

A trained lawyer and seasoned grassroots politician, Odior traced his public service career back to 1991 when he served as a councillor. He later held roles as Supervisor for Health and Environment, member of key council committees, and PDP Legal Adviser in Delta State. He won the party’s primary with 23 of 39 delegate votes before clinching victory in the general election.

Odior noted that he has sponsored about eight bills since joining the House, several of which have become law. Beyond lawmaking, he stressed his commitment to constituency engagement and oversight. “I have deep roots with my people. I relate with them daily, and I understand their needs,” he said. “Our duty is not just to make laws but to ensure they are executed in the interest of the people.”

He also highlighted ongoing projects in Isoko North, including the renovation of primary schools in Aradhe, Ogwhe, and Oyede, alongside the provision of classroom furniture to improve learning conditions.

The proposed bill comes amid wider concerns about language loss in Delta State, where Pidgin English has largely replaced indigenous tongues even in rural Urhobo and Isoko communities. Similar initiatives have been rolled out in other states, including Bayelsa’s recruitment of 200 Izon teachers for public schools.

The bill is expected to spark fresh debate on education, identity, and cultural preservation in Delta State.
